English version: Today, we explain you how to make a clipboard to put our documents, clip our inspirations, make some mood boards or simply fill out our paperwork! Seduced by the revival of the marble trend that we can see everywhere this winter (on walls, printed on many clothes and accessories or use for furniture…), we choose to use a marble printed effect! We had already adopted this pattern with a pretty shirt and with our vintage Formica table!

So, to create a custom clipboard, you need

  • Adhesive paper with the pattern of your choice.
  • A canvas board. You can also opt for a classic cardboard or reuse an old calendar. Choose a size larger than A4. We took a canvas board of 35 cm X 24 cm.
  • A clip for drawing with a hole to fix it.
  • A screw to connect or a rivet. Verify that the size corresponds to the hole of the clip and to the thickness of the cardboard + the thickness of the clip.
  • A cutter
  • A pencil
  • A ruler
  • Some scissors

The steps of this DIY:

  • Align the clip in the middle of the top of the cardboard. Be careful with the positioning. First, do a test to make sure that the sheets don’t run over from the cardboard. Once you are sure of its position, mark the location of the hole in the clip with a pencil and make a circle inside.
  • Then, using a cutter, to make a hole in the cardboard of the size of the circle drawn before (watch your fingers!). Remove the excess cardboard with the cutter for clean edges.
  •  Unwind the adhesive paperThe back side of the roller must be facing you. Unstick a part of the protection of the adhesive paper. In one corner of the roller, place the cardboard in the front side, taking care to leave 2 cm of surplus on each edge. Cut the other two sides of the adhesive paper leaving 2 cm of surplus on each edge. Flip the cardboard and, using a soft cloth to remove any air bubbles.
  • Then, fold the upper and lower surplus of the adhesive paper on the back of the cardboard. Do the same with the other two sides by hiding the surplus under the flaps.
  • Then cut, in the rest of the adhesive paper, a rectangle of a size slightly smaller than the cardboard used. We chose to remove 0.5 cm of the dimensions of our cardboard. So we cut a rectangle of 34 cm X 23 cm.
  • Unstick the protective adhesive paper in few centimeters and place it on the back of the cardboard in 0.5 cm from each edgeWith a soft cloth, clear any air bubbles outward while taking off the rest of the protection. The two sides of your clipboard are covered!
  • With the cutter, draw a cross on each side of the cardboard to the location of the hole made previously. Pass the two ends of the connecting screws (or rivet) in the hole to achieve a clean opening. Then remove them. Place the hole of the clip on the opening created. Then, place the tips of the screws connecting each side and tighten. You can secure your clipboard by gluing the clip on the cardboard with glue neoprene for example before to put the screw. If there is a little space between the cardboard and the clip, you can also add a slice in the back of the clipboard between the screw and the support.

And voila, you now have a nice personalized clipboard to hang your documents and pin what inspires you on it! A kind of Pinterest just for you! So you like it? And this marble trend, what do you think about it?
