Iceland : Ion Hotel

English version : During our road trip in Iceland, we often camped. But as we are always looking for unusual and nice places to show you, we also offered ourselves some beautiful nights. To finish our first day in Iceland, we had the chance to spend the night at the amazing Ion Hotel. This is one of the finest hotels in Iceland. A magical place where the Icelandic wild landscape match up with luxury.

The Ion Hotel is a luxury adventure hotel, located at one hour from Reykjavik near the famous Golden Circle. This is a tourist area where you can explore the geysers of Geysir, the impressive waterfall of Gullfoss and the rift that separates America from Europe. The latter, symbol of continental drift, is in the Þingvellir National Park. It’s a UNESCO world heritage site.

The lines are contemporary and elegant. The design of the building is minimalist. It’s a beautiful mix of glass and concrete. The hotel was built in the middle of a lava field. Its design fits perfectly with the cold and wild nature of Iceland. The canopy on stilts give lightness to the structure. The hotel seems to levitate like a spaceship.

On the contrary, insideeverything is done to warm the atmosphere: light wood, large illustrations of Icelandic ponies in the rooms, comfortable beds and a spa …

The hotel, located near the geothermal plant of Nejsavellir, has natural hot springs. The must: the outdoor pool! What a joy to be into the warm waters while it’s cold outside.

We are here as in a cocoon. At the same time, we are protected from the Icelandic ruthless nature and we are in the heart of this beautiful panorama, eager to watch these magnificent landscapes by huge windows. The perfect combination of nature and modernity!

Ecological showers, fair-trade organic linens, eco-friendly soaps and lotions with Icelandic wild herbs, fresh and local products for the restaurant and the bar … all values that are consistent with respect for the environment.

For the winter guests, when there are northern lights, the hotel warns all of its customers and its staff. A good idea to enjoy this magical dance in the sky.
